What I miss (or I am doing something wrong),

is some sort of master-template editing. Create a basic layout that you use on all the template pages. Now I have to copy the elements to all pages to make it happen.

Hello Jurjen,
Themler theme includes several page templates:

PageTemplates.png

They're used for different pages of your site. In general Home Page template is used for home page. Page Template is usually used for static pages. Default template is used on pages that don't use any other specific template (like Shopping Cart template or Blog page template). The Post and Blog templates are specific for Blog pages, Products template is used for online store.

So depending on site specific you set up design of all or several templates and then use templates on your pages.

As for copying controls we're considering a feature that allows to share controls (with relevant styles) . In the meantime you may copy and paste container control (for example Row control) that includes other controls.

Regards,
Aileen

Are we right to understand that this forces you to maintain + manually sync controls + styling between about 5 instances of each theme for each site, and that there's no inheritance between the page-type templates?

There doesn't seem to be any way to force the CMS to just use one page-type "master" template version (e.g. if it's a home page - it has to use the "home" template. If it's a single article page it must use the "page" template (but - not if you display any metadata - then it must use the "post" template etc.

If so it's pretty much a deal breaker in terms of keeping & renewing this software as it's quicker to manually build a bootstrap theme, or just use a wysiwyg layout tool for bootstrap.

The differences in the page-templates also seem to be redundant as those page-by-page differences are almost all handled in the CMS (e.g. turning on/off metadata, using overrides or css page specific classes or just different content, or you could just manually make a copy of the theme with changes and assign to different pages.

Why not just have a "master" template and then have instances with overrides? E.g. similar to the way Joomla's default bootstrap template works, or at the very least, allow CMS pages to all use the same page-type-template (instead of hard-coding the home page to be forced to use the "home" template etc.

Hi Brian, I am using Themler for some time now, and maybe I can help.
What I do is design the homepage, and than i start designing the page templates.
First, I design kind of a master page template, and than, if I need to continue and work with more page templates, I duplicate the first page template, call it another name, and save it, and than I have all of the controls synced, and no need to maintain anything.
And than, in case I need to edit anything different, I can do it on the new page template...
This actually works great for me...
I think the real problem is that there is no tutorial or any example of using Themler this way, so it's a bit confusing...
I am thinking of maybe doing a screencast or tutorial...
anyway, I hope i could help a bit..
Have a great day :)

Thanks for the response.

Do you use Joomla? The problem is that different types of joomla pages, must use different hard-coded themler templates (Home, Page, Post, Blog etc).

E.g. Your Joomla default (home) page must use "home" template. Single-Article pages with metadata showing must use "post" template, or those without metadata must use the "page" template etc).

I tried duplicating as you mentioned but it didn't seem to solve the problem, because Joomla still wants to use themlers hard-coded "post" template for example, and I can't replace that template by duplicating say my "home" template and calling it "post" (it doesn't replace the post template but merely makes another template called "post" that won't be used by joomla pages with metadata).

I'm using the template drop down to duplicate. Is this where you meant (see attachment)

It drives me nuts, I want my home template identical to my page template. Now there is a slight difference in height between the sidebar container and the content container of about 25 pixels and I just cannot get them aligned...

Hi,

There is no possibility to assign one template to all the pages. You can only create all the templates alike.

Hella

Hi,

In order to show same controls on all templates please use shared controls: Header, Sidebars, Footer (with orange border). All controls inside these areas will appear on all templates where these areas are enabled.
In your case you can enable Top Sidebar under the Sidebars tab and move 4 top Rows and 2 Joomla positions above Sidebars control into this Top Sidebar. Then enable this sidebar on all other templates.
Do the same for Bottom Sidebar and 2 Rows below Sidebars control.

The following article should be helpful.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

Thank you,
Olivia

It would be nice to be able to mark multiple things in Outline and copy them on other template.
But I noticed it brings one other very nasty problem. If Post content or sidebar with this name already exist on other template and you try to paste it there is no way Themler can understand what you are trying. Ends in Error occurred...message.

Hello Stagger Lee,
thank you for your suggestion regarding copying elements.
Unfortunately I failed to reproduce reported issues on default Themler theme, namely: the Posts control Copy option is disabled. When I copy the Sidebar pasted to the template which includes the sidebar with the same name I do not get an error.
May be I'm missing something? Please provide exact steps you follow to repeat the crash.

Regards,
Aileen

Hi,

Themler works excellent for Joomla web developers. It knows all that Artisteer was not able of, custom module positions, which are ductile editing, responsive template editing. Really great work.
The creation of different templates (Post, Page, etc.) in addition to the Home template is also useful function.
However, this is only very rarely needed, not always. This is currently a lot of unnecessary work to be carried out, which makes it Themler difficult to use. I suggest to this feature to simplify. For a web site I does not want to prepare 4-5 templates that are the same, its simply too long work. Till the solution of the problem I have to go back to the Artiseer, because the work with Themler is too long.

Just in case please let us know do you mean that Themler itself is slow or site with Themler themes is working slowly?

The speed of the work in Themler is good. If i had to make one template to one theme (e.g.: Home), then the speed of making a webdesign would be suitable.

I found only little mistakes by creating templates in Themler.

I would gladly share my experiences with examples, but not in public, thereunto please send me an availability in a private message.

I am interested in more information on this. Basically any template I have purchased or with Artisteer there was one set of modules (positions) in the template.

What if you just want to use the home template for all the pages? To make a different set for all these is way to much work.

Could not an option be to just have the others off and have a single default template if you just want the same thing across the whole site?
