& sign gives PHP error Joomla

When you use the "&" sign in the Author field in Description tab (picture err!error1.jpg), you can't "save and publish" or export the template you get an PHP error (picture error3.jpg). If you close Themler (desktop version) it will not start again, the next Joomla error message appears: (see below) . Investigation revealed that the file "templateDetails.xml" contains errors, by making manual changes everything works again.
This error is problematic and should be solved ASAP.
