As you can read in this article Joomla will be getting custom fields. This feature is long awaited by lots of users. So my question is if Themler is ready for this implementation?

There is a developer release available with this feature at Github

Hello Themler support and dev team.

Custom Fields is one of the most important new features since the launch of Joomla 3, and will transform the way that many Joomla sites are built.

It will be very great if we can in Themler:

  1. Style Custom Fields in Joomla (there is 19 fields!)
  2. Сontrol positions of this fields (to put each field in several places inside article, add it to Row control etc.)

Here is a list of Custom Fields: https://www.joomlashack.com/blog/tutorials/fields-joomla/

So there is a lot of work to support editing (edit styles) of each fields and need to early investigating fields to see how they can be integrated with Themler.

Please, take it seriously. Beta 1 is comming soon... play with it to be ready for full work when RC and Stable will be rolling out.

BTW here is a Road map of Joomla 3.7: https://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5692-road-to-joomla-3-7.html

Hi,

I've made a quick check of the joomla 3.7 custom fields on my side. According to what I see this feature outputs some static data specified under the article configuration. This data is displayed on the front end. I've tested Themler theme and everything is ok. We'll check compatibility with joomla 3.7 after it's official release. But, at some extent, Themler works ok on joomla 3.7.

Thank you,
Olivia

Thanks for reply, Olivia.

The main goal of Joomla 3.7 and Custom Fields is possibility to style it and control position of fields inside Post to extend standard content.

It will be possible?

Hi,

The position of custom fields is controlled by Joomla (After Title, before Display, After Display).
I'm not sure that it's possible to insert custom fields directly inside article content. It looks like this is something similar article date, author, tags, intro/full image article parameters.
What exactly style options you are expecting to see in Themler? The custom fields are simple text label and value.

Thank you,
Olivia

Hello.

Thank you for attention to this topic.

About position: right, I think it must be like additional Control for Post (like article date, author, tags etc) in Themler, so we can add Custom Fields control like it possible with other Post Controls.

About style: first of all please check this topic - Form styles (dropdown, radio, checkbox) (created at 28 January 2015 and with 65 votes) - this is similar task. So need to add style for Calendar, Checkboxes, Radio, Drop-down list and Fields (custom style for Custom Fields).

Vitaliy,

Did you try this new feature?
I could be wrong, but the point of this feature is similar to k2 custom fields. These are additional options for joomla articles and on the frond end you see the content or selected parameters of the fields, not the fields.
This is protostar theme and two fields: color and calendar:

custom0fields-protostar.png

I think, there is no point in such styling, isn't?

Thank you,
Olivia

Hello, Olivia.

Oh, sorry... I tested it by myself. I've been wrong about this functions.
You are right - it's work like a K2 and on frontend we get just values from backend.

So, actually there is nothing to style... maybe just text styles and blocks: .field-entry, .field-label and .field-value.

Sorry again ))

Hi,

Ok. I'll add a wish regarding positioning and styling of label and text to the joomla 3.7 compatibility task.

Thank you,
Olivia
