Hi,

I'd like to use two completely different templates for the blog template. For this purpose I designed the first layout (here I'd like to have 2 column layout). Then I've added a new template with the type of blog. In this new template I set 3 column layout. But the two templates seems not to be independent from each other. If I'm going to change the layout option column both templates now uses this value.

How can I create two independent templates for the type blog?

Robert

Hi,

When editing the new template, open the Post control options and in the top ribbon there will be an option to Customize Template styles. Press it and the all the edits will be applied to this template only.

Sincerely,
Hella

Hi,

I'm very sorry, but your solution does not work.

But maybe my question was not precise enough. I have one Joomla template. Inside this template there are templates for pages as well as for a blog layout. Now I'd like to use different styles of blog layouts for different sites (e.g. one layout for a projects page and another one for the team page and so on).

On the screenshot in the attachment you can see what I'd like to do. I'd like to use a different blog layout (configured with Post control as you mentioned in your answer) for each blog template. But as soon I change the blog layout for one of the blogs, every blog looks the same and uses the actual layout.

How can I change the layout oft the three blogs on the screenshots independently?

Kind regards,
Robert

Hi,

When you open the new Blog template, open the Post control options in the top ribbon and press the Customize template styles button to edit that template only.

Hi,

thanks a lot. Now it works.

But why do I have to push this button? If I create a NEW template, it is sure, that i want to edit just this template. Have you ever spend only one thought about usability? I'm producing multimedia products since about 15 years, but I've never ever worked with such a inconvenient tool like Themler.

Kind regards,
Robert

Hi,

All Themler theme templates use Posts control. This is cross-templated control used to output CMS content. The functionality of this control is the same on all templates (built-in or custom, no matter).
For example, you want the Posts control look the same on Post, Page and Home/Default templates. What do you prefer: configure Posts control on each template separately or configure it once on one of the templates and force Posts controls on other templates use this default style?
Another example. You want two Blog templates. But you need only small differences between them and Posts controls should look the same. Are you sure that this is good solution to make the same changes on different templates twice? It's better to click one button once instead of repeating the same configuration of Posts control few times.

Thank you,
Olivia

Hi,

you are completely right. The usage of templates is a great thing. And the way you describe it is a very good one. Also a lot of other things in Themler are nice ideas. But the implementation of those ideas is not well done in Themler!

Its good to have templates. Its good to duplicate templates and perform changes which affects the whole site. But its not good, if I duplicate template A, now alter the duplicated (lets call it template A1) and after that I must see that the changes are done in both, template A and template A1. Thats not convenient at all.

Regards,
Robert

Hello Robert,
both templates could be edited together or could be edited independently. If you do not want the changes from one template to be reflected on the template copy click the option 'Customize template style'

Aileen

Hi... I think I understand what's going on. The person that originally worked on the theme had already customized the template style for Page, and since I made a copy of the page template to create an new Attorney template, it looks like it retained to option to use a custom template style. This is why all I saw in the Attorney template was the "reset to default" and the "set as default" options.

This created another problem. I clicked on reset to default and the the change took effect across all page templates that I have. I have three page templates and I want them to have a different style so that I can have a different layout for these. It's basically a general purpose page template, an attorney template for attorney profiles, and a practice area template for practice area description pages.

Shouldn't I be able to duplicate a page template and then select the customize template button on the new duplicate template so that I don't impact the original page template? I am not sure where I am going wrong with this.

I will open a new thread for this.

Hi,

You can try to create a new Page template and not to duplicate the existing one. On a new template the Customize template styles button should be available for sure.

Sincerely,
Hella
