You mean the horizontal menu should drop down the submenus only when you click on it? There is no such option.

I want a submenu only visible when i click on the mainmenu -item. how can i fix this for a joomla site.

In Joomla administration:
Got to: Menu Manager / Menu Items / Edit Menu Item / Menu Item type / Select : System Links then External URL / In the space provide to Link put symbol # like link for the menu item of the mainmenu.

After you can create your sub-menu under de menu item.

Sorry but i don't understand no i have one menu with 3 items. And under each item there is a submenu. But these submenu must showed on a different location. may be you can look. test-ararin.be/test3 NOw the submenu's are both showed as you can see.

now the menu at http://test-ararin.be/test3/ doesn't have submenus at all. Please describe what you'd like to get in more details. The issue is not clear.
