Themler Desktop Beta is now available!

Hello

Themler Desktop Beta version is finally here!

This version allows creating themes directly on your computer and you are not required to use any external web hosting.
Thanks to HTML 5 AppCache technology, Themler downloads its components at its first run, minimizes the Internet traffic and reduces the startup time. However you still need Internet connection to use this version.

Themler desktop installs all components it needs: WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, wooCommerce, VirtueMart, Magento and PrestaShop, as well as Apache, MySQL and PHP services. All these components are installed automatically and no additional configuration is required.

The built-in Theme Management dialog allows you to easily manage your projects directly within Themler and you don’t need to utilize a CMS administration panel.

For whom the desktop version is?

The Desktop version simplifies the process of installation and configuration of Apache, PHP, MySQL and WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento and PrestaShop on local computer for non-experienced users by making it a one-click process. And Desktop version it is a bit faster since it works with local CMS.

The drawback of desktop version is separate Apache and MySQL instances running on your computer even if you already have these programs installed.

For experienced users, who already have WordPress, Joomla, Drupal, Magento and PrestaShop working on their computers, we recommend to download and install our blank themes from themler.com instead of installing the desktop version.

Note: This is Beta version and therefore unexpected issues are possible.
Please let us know about any and all issues that you may encounter. For this create a new Private topic and provide us with information listed here:

OK, thanks.

I see now I wont be using this much if it stays like this. Web based Themler has more benefits.

  • Make program detect if Apache and mysql services are already activated. We all use developing servers, and no need to duplicate services. (not critical and not so important right now). But then, it is impossible to use root folder on C partition.

  • Make a option where we can for all Themes inside program put a URL to our real CMS installations. (very important right now)

Ideal to cover all scenarios and need for backups would be:

  • Themler open our CMS installation directly in our developing server (htdocs, www, etc..). We can point it manually to installation. Just desktop browse window and show CMS folder, something like this.
  • We work all the time on our server, not build in Themler server on C: partition.
  • Themler software just make a backup when we click "Save", or better to have separate button for Backup, to not to slow down all work in Themler.

As it is now and program doesnt know about menus, content, widgets, posts, etc....There is really no need for any desktop version. But I do understand other Users like it this way and want it.

Thought this would be a great idea, mainly because I have slow and unreliable internet. I downloaded and installed, but just get an error "This webpage is not available - ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED"

Updated WP core and now need to login.

admin/admin

I downloaded and installed, but just get an error "This webpage is not available - ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED"

We've fixed a few bug and we are going to update installation in the near future.

I'll update this topic as soon as we upload new version.

Thank you,

This almost worked. Makes login problems.
Now have to find out how to delete cache in desktop Themler. Deleted this snippet and still redirects to this.

update_option('siteurl','http://localhost:80/my-wp');
update_option('home','http://localhost:80/my-wp');

Here is a list of known issues of the current Themler Desktio version:

  • issue with non-latin(e.g. cyrillic) charactres in Windows username.
  • issues with installing Themler under non-administrator user account.

Workaround: Install and load Themler under administrator account which contains only latin characters.

We've fixed the issue with non-latin(e.g. cyrillic) charactres in Windows username and uploaded the updated Themler Desktop beta installation.

We're still working on the second issue with installing Themler under non-administrator user account.

Thank you,

@Olivia,

  • Developing websites (and using Themler in general) assume WE ALL already have Apache, PHP, mysql servers running.

Please detach Themler Desktop from own servers and using C windows partition.
Give us option to browse to CMS installation folder (inside WWW, htdocs, etc...) and use it when starting Themler Desktop. (remember, servers are already running in the background, right ?)

  • You give yourself one headache less by not worry about servers code.
  • We get our content back when editing themes.

Dont know how to have one central collection of themes, cant be easy done even now. Not so important for this I am saying.

Or if you wanted Desktop for travelers and other Users without own servers. You could maybe under installation give option to chose if User want Desktop servers or he/she will use own servers, and own www root folder. (not this in Users...App data...Themler).

Point is for each separate theme option to manually chose CMS instalaltion folder, to get content back.

I almost got it with this in Themler Desktop custom functions.php, but end in endless loop, or something like this.

define( 'WP_SITEURL', 'http://localhost:80/my-cms-folder' );
define( 'WP_HOME', 'http://localhost:80/my-cms-folder' );
define( 'WP_CONTENT_URL', 'http://localhost:80/my-cms-folder/wp-content' );
define( 'UPLOADS', 'my-cms-folder/wp-content/uploads' );

I am a registered user of Themla Business Version.
I have found the online version extremely slow to work with, so I have just downloaded latest version of themla for desktop today.
The install ran ok with shortcut to themla showing.
When it opens, the following errors are present.
Can you please provide a simple fix as I am not a programmer.
Many thanks, Bruce

"This webpage is not available

ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED

Google Chrome's connection attempt to localhost was rejected. The
website may be down, or your network may not be properly configured.

localhost 12080 themler startup"

If this helps at all, during the setup of the .exe file an error message states
"programme files/themler/bin/apache/hthemlerd.exe is not a valid win32 application"
Could this be the cause of the problem?
Thanks, Bruce

Online NZ,

We've manage to reproduce the second issue on our side.
We expect to fix it in the near future and update Themler Desktop installation with the fix.
I'll post any news about the progress in this topic.

Stagger Lee,
I've updated initial post about Desktop version a little.
In general, we created Themler Desktop for non-experienced users who find it difficult to install and configure webserver and CMS to work with Themler themes locally. There is a different between Themler launched on remote-hosted CMS and Desktop version. But there is no noticeable difference between Desktop version and Themler launched on local CMS. Both these versions support AppCache and Theme Management. So, of you prefer to work with your local webserver and CMS you can download theme from our website and use instead of Desktop version. At this stage of development you should not see the difference.

Thank you,
Olivia
