Oh, my goodness.

It's just been pointed out to me that all my page titles (Post Headers) that I've put into my numerous sites are not H1 headers.

I'm beside myself. Why?

Hi,

Yes, Post Header control uses H2 heading because Themler uses Post Header on the Blog template too.
You can try using Post Title control (Insert tab >> More). It uses H1 heading.
What CMS are you using?

Thank you,
Olivia

Hi

The CMS is Joomla
The Post title seems to pick up the text from what is written in the menu item.
Very often you don't want the same text in the title and the menu link as the menu link needs to be short.

Am I correct and Is there a solution to this?

this doesnt solve the problem Olivia. Joomla uses articles for almost every content. We want the article Titles to be H1 and not H2. Using the suggested Blog title control does not show the specific article title.

Hiya

As above. Using the 'Show Blog Title' gives you the Joomla Category Title at the top of each article, repeated all the way down the page, not pretty.

If you are using a 'read more' in the blog article, when you click through to the article you get the H1 title.
If you are not using a 'read more' you just get the H2 tag. Presumably because you shouldn't have more than one H1 tag on a page?

Thank you

Hi,

As mentioned in my previous reply, this title shows Joomla Page heading of the menu items. There are only two controls which use H1 heading: this title and page Title which displayed document title.
The Post Header control cannot use h1 tag because the same control is used on the Blog template where you don't need several h1 headings. Themler theme uses the same Posts control on all templates.

Unfortunately there are no other options except CMS Code control with the native joomla code which displays article title.

Thank you,
Olivia

I have been working with them for 2 years to get this fixed. Themler is now the same as other Joomla templates.

What you are saying is correct, if, you have Joomla set this way. However the post title is never the menu item text. Perhaps you have a few settings that need to be changed. Joomla's settings are very specific for SEO. You can use a "Page Heading" which is an H1 set at the menu item level. If you have your global setting to show this it will show the menu title but that is why the Page Heading is there so you can optimize or change this to your liking. Article title is H2.

With that said, you statement of the category title repeated on the page may be a Themler setup that is not correct. That is not standard behavior to me.

Again it took me 2 years to get this corrected. It's now just like Protstar and other templates.

Hi Dave
Thank you for your comments.
I think I'm sorted with what to do now.
(I miss typed when I said Post Title, I meant Page Title.)
The important thing is that I'm using Page Titles, H1 for my article titles.
If they are too long or different to what is needed in the menu I'm changing the Menu item / page display to what I want it to show.
That's it really, I have my H1 page titles back!

Glad you sorted it out. Yes the Page Title and Page Heading are very useful for both SEO and customizing Joomla pages. Why I like Joomla so much. Took me quite some time to get this accross to the dev team though. Thought I was going to have to give up for a while there.

Was this fixed for Wordpress too?

How can I change the Post Header to use H1 in Wordpress? I don't want the Page Title because it needs to be different than my Meta Title.. this is bad for SEO..

I just want the Post Header to be H1 for Wordpress... what is a work around. Page Title is NOT what I need or want.

I want the name of page in Wordpress to be reflected in the H1 tag (Post Header)

Hi,

We changed the behavior of the Blog Title for joomla only.
In case of WP there is an option to use or not use document title for Page Title control under the WP Appearance >> Theme Options.

Thank you,
Olivia

After experimenting for while, I have been able to change Article titles from H2 to H1.

  1. Locate the article_3.php file at the location below.
    template-name/includes/article_3.php

  2. change any H2 you see to H1 and you're good to go.
