How about some real training videos?

How about making some real training videos where you actually explain what is going on within themler? Not a recreation of a theme at light speed with no instructions. That's ridiculous. This is supposed to be easy to use software, but it is not. Quite confusing. Go over all the options at normal speed, and if making a website from scratch, go slow and explain what and why you do something. I'm so confused right now a refund would look great.

I agree with Mike ,

A training guide would be nice either a pdf book or a detailed video series going from start to finish of the theme creation , Like most people i dont have the time to spend playing around with the program to figure it all out so until something is released Themler is on the back burner of things to do :P

Themler may not be as easy to use as Artisteer, therefore it is not for everyone like Artisteer was.
However, we are working on making it easier to use, as well as asking for help with creating video (and/or written) tutorials:
http://answers.themler.com/questions/18276/request-for-proposals-from-themler-designers-developers-available-for-hire

We hope to bring you better tutorials soon. Though please keep in mind that Themler is a very open-ended tool and any video crated for one person may be totally unusable for another. No amount of videos may address your specific needs, therefore please ask specific questions and request specific tutorials and specific solutions.
We would also be happy to answer your specific questions and guide you with specific questions regarding your project and theme design process.

The videos are very vague.. I've been a programmer 15 years and I had hard knocks learning Themler.. lost 7 hours of labor and still have issues opening the desktop version... we need more videos of each hidden feature.. just a break down manual of where the options are located.

Hopefully you get someone to help create training videos, but in the mean time, how about some in real time showing the controls and options in Themler. You programmed all these with some thought in mind as to why you created them. Maybe even redo the videos you created only in real time and not lightspeed. And take the time to explain why you inverted the colours or added padding or deleted a sidebar. That could be enough to give us an idea on the creation process and ease us into it.

Anyways, those are just my thoughts. I'll start another post to find out why my artx import into Themlr and look completely different.

Hello guys,
thank you for the feedback, we appreciate all your comments.
It's in our plans to produce a number of new video tutorials which cover new Themler features. And it'd be helpful for us if you tell us what exactly you'd like us to cover in videos.

Just in case, the latest video tutorials are located under
Design Examples section of
http://answers.themler.com/articles/4695/video-tutorials

Is it possible to have sorting filter on documentation page ?

Just one is enough, click to show latest posts in documentation on the top. This way we could allways follow latest tutorials you add, without going through all of them.

I would like some real time training on exporting from artisteer and importing into themler, because everytime I try, the theme doesn't look anything like it should in themler.

Thanks

Hello Mike,
actually the export steps are really simple. In Artisteer select Themler >> WordPress in the Export dialog. Then install WP theme in the way you usually do.
Activate theme in WP admin back end and open in Themler using left side Themler menu in WP admin back end.
If you have got a problem on any step please create a new topic and describe the issue in details. Attached .zip with the theme would be also helpful.

regards,
Aileen

OK, thanks. I'll do that tonight. It seems to me when I import the theme into the wordpress, it maintains items from the basic themeler theme. But I'll start a new thread later.

Just an idea everyone..... How about we start up a google+ community where we can post how to videos when we learn something.

I use a Snaggit as a Screen capture and Record screen to show support teams when I am having an issue with other software programs.

So everytime I have a question I record my screen. Every support staff with every company I deal with love it, as they can see first hand what I am trying to explain.

I am willing to start it up, but would want others to share.

Another good screencast/record tool is Screencast-o-matic which is free and good enough for short "How to" videos.

So what do you say? Because I do think Themler has a lot to offer, and just like all of you, I too am going through this learning curve alone and it sucks. I always just go back to Artisteer because I know it inside and out.

Testing:

Embed iframe from Youtube works here. Put tutorial on YT channel and paste embed code here. If it is somethinng worth they will take it and put inside "Videos" page.

I would help but cannot. Never in my life made any tutorial video whatsoever.
I can try and see how it goes. Needs much practising because people dont wont to look your mouse in endless movements without a point.

Keep going writing what capture software is best, etc. Possibly freeware. Last week I installed Free Screen recorder from DVDSoft but mouse if flickering whole time.

Themler is an incredible tool, but I do agree that the videos are virtually useless in that they move far too quickly, have no voice over at all, and it's difficult to see what the people are doing unless you slow the video down to a crawling speed and watch it repeatedly for hours. It does not have to be that way.

If I want to ask how to add a menu and make it transparent, where would I turn for help? I could ask on the forum but replies seem very slow in coming, usually ask for a video of what I am trying to do, although the question is very clear and simple and you end up getting nowhere.

Having Themler is like having an incredible tool with huge potential but having no instruction book an clearly knowing that you will have to set aside weeks to learn how to use it if you can do that. Certain menus will pop in and out and actually go away whether you click on them or not, others are invisible unless you choose the correct option, and on and on. You can create incredible themes using Themler but it can takes anyone months to weeks to get up to speed on how to do the most basic functions.

It's not that Artisteer is that much simpler to use, but that there is more documentation and the forum is more active. There are slow Artisteer videos showing how to perform functions, written tutorials with screenshots...Themler does not have this...so creating a custom theme cannot be done in a day, or even a week, but months as I don't know what I can or cannot do, how to do things, and it's frustrating. This is why people are asking for refunds and showing this feeling. There is no support documentation. You could create incredible sites, but we won't show you how is the general feeling.

Watch what happens:

Hi! How can I add a menu to a Themler theme and make it transparent? Then if I try to execute the instructions, will the instructions work? Will there ever be a video explaining how to do this?

If a Thmeler theme has multiple pages, how can I find the other pages in the theme so I can edit them? They do not show up in the menu to edit.

This does not make sense to me.

To use Themler, I need to open Artisteer first? Then I create the Themler theme for WordPress?

Can you please explain in specific steps so I can try it? One of the problems with Themler (other than trying to learn how to use it without any documentation) is that you can create a beautiful theme, export it, upload it to your site and half of what you did is not there. This means that you cannot predictably use it for client work because you have no way of knowing what it will or will not carry over. It's a huge problem.

I've downloaded other themes and exported them to test sites, uploaded them, and nothing is there. I've tried editing themes in Themeler site and then try to use the theme and nothing is there. It's almost like a cruel joke is being played....so while I love Themler for what it could be...it's very hard to use unless experimenting or just playing around. I can't use it for actual work because I have no way of knowing what will or will not carry over and it can take days to make a small change to a theme and see if it translates.

I would love to see a slow video on:

  • how to properly edit and save and import a theme so changes actually
show up in a WP site as it was when being worked on

a slow video on how to create a menu, add it to a theme, make it
transparent, move it around, add a search box and logo, without
    mauling the theme

how to find different pages in a theme and edit them when they don't
show up in the Themler theme menu to edit

[2]: http://www.screencast-o-matic.com/

I agree and have Screencast O Matic as well.

The learning curve is huge with Themler and help does not seem to be on the way anytime soon. I use Themler as if I were given an incredible tool by an alien race with no instruction book that I can use. When I ask for help the alien race doesn't speak my language so answers are vague and unclear. That's how it feels at times. I can't use Themelr for client sites yet and don't know how others could unless they have huge amounts of time to study it and learn how to use it or are very advanced. If I were to try to create a site with Themler my first concern would be how to make sure the work I do would export properly to a WP site so what I do actually shows up and exports....most do not. Also, if I want to make a change to a theme, sometimes the changes don't show up, sometimes they do, and it could take days to learn how to make the smallest change...so I use Themler as a "playground" that I can't use for business because it's too volatile in use and there is no real tangible documentation that can help me learn how to use it.

If it were to stay the same, I wouldn't renew the subscription since I really can't use Themler for anything other than just playing around or experimenting with what a theme could be one day were I to have instructions that made sense. I would take the money for Themler and put it toward getting Genesis and a few child themes. If documentation were clear and easy to understand, and Themler were advertised to developers on sites that developers use daily like Envato, it would take off.
