How do I modify the home page to look more like the products page? i.e. how do I delete the "posts" area and replace it with a "products" area?

Thanks - but I've already started my theme and was wondering what steps I need to take to replicate the home page of SkateMore.

Hello,

The idea is to put one or several products sliders to the Home page so that some featured products, bestsellers etc. are displayed. For this standard wooCommerce widgets can be put into a proper widget area - the Primary Widget area in our case. The widgets are output with the help of Product Slider controls, each of them can be set up separately. For example, this is how it looks in the example theme:

As for the Posts control. As it is ouput with the help of the Content control, you can try disabling displaying CMS Content for the Home template by going to Sidebars >> CMS Content like this:

Let us know if any additional questions appear.

Sincerely,
Nettie,

Thanks - that helped a bit. I've set the CMS content to off and dragged a WP Primary Widget Area to the area next to the sidebar. However, there is still a container to the right of the primary widget area I cannot remove and the sidebar somehow has two extra blank columns in it from my dragging and dropping operations. When I try to delete the columns, I get this message:
Model Change
Unable to complete remove. Another operation is in process. Please wait and try again.

This occurs even if I leave it alone a while.

So now I've got a sidebar with a product slide, but also a Main Widget with a product slider. How do I change the Main Widget's product slider to the Products widget - does that have to be done in the admin area of the site?

Hello Andrew,
I'm sorry but I'm not quite sure that I understand you properly. What do you mean by "Main Widget"? May be you mean the Products Grid?

If yes, then please refer to this article that describes this control

As for widgets located in various Widget Areas, the widgets could be added, removed under WP admin back end, under Appearance >> Widgets.

regards,
Aileen

Hello Andrew,
you may select the Shop page (the one that outputs products) as Home page under WP admin back end:
