I am having the same problem with file permissions and have also tried to change to 775 and does not work.

it looks like when new theme has been installing some data was overwritten by correct one. And so it is working now.

I have the same problem. Sometimes its working without problem, and next time I have this Insufficient permissions. It means it has nothing to do with my tmp and path, cause it is correct.

Solved for me : )

When I install a new themplate to Joomla, no matter if its a template you should use or not, I can open it, and after that I can open the template I am using....

just in case please re-check the permissions for the manifest.php file. If it does not help then please submit new private topic and provide access to your Joomla admin back end and FTP access to your Joomla folder.

I've installed the template and now I'm getting this...

Insufficient permissions.

The theme cannot be edited. Please make sure that the user and group running web server is granted the appropriate read, write and execute(linux only) permissions on the following folders. As well as read and write permission on the files in these folders:

/home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx/administrator/templates/isis
/home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx/templates
/home/xxxxx/public_html/xxxxx/language
C:\wamp\www\xxxxx/tmp

Using FileZilla, I've changed the folder & file permissions to 775 to the folders suggested (other than wamp as there's no wamp folder on the Apache web server).

Any suggestions?

I'm having this too but with drupal and the desktop version. None of the solutions here seem to be applicable. I therefore reported it separately here: http://answers.themler.com/questions/24890/can-t-export-drupal-theme-insufficient-permissions-themler-desktop

I'm getting no replies, is there anyone around here who can share some pointers on how I can actually fix these permission issues? Or are there people using the desktop version who are able to export a drupal theme?
