I had a similar issue, I ended up setting the image sizes that were effected by the aspect ration distortion to 'auto'. It seemed the distortion was a bigger problem in Chrome than other browsers.

We need to have some new options for the slider and make it auto responsive for people who want the images to be contained like a content image.
