DNN export not working?

Dear Themler,

We create websites for lots of customers and tried out Artisteer for one of our web developers. He told us we should actualy use Themler, so he is now using that and created his first theme (compliments on the themler product).

However, we use DNN to host the websites and have customers edit the sites content afterwards. This does not seem to work. After importing the theme, all looks great, but users can't utilize the CMS "edit content" feature to edit text or alter a image, rendering the CMS useless and to nothing more than a static hosting platform for the themler site.

What are we doing wrong here? How can we convert the static theme to a dynamic editable DNN site?

Hope to hear from you,

Best regards,

Arjan.

Hi Arjan,

Themler don't support content editing in DNN. You can create template in Themler, import theme to CMS and edit CMS content in DNN.

Thank you,
Themler Team

We need content importing feature in DNN too. Why and when we can see this feature?

So why we are having the content in the themler? Is there are way alt least to copy and paste the content from the Themler to the DNN site manually?

Please, advise.

12.madu,

Do you mean Sections? This is not exactly content. The Section may be a content depending on where is was added. There is no content section in DNN themes. Therefore all Sections are part of the design.
In general yes. it's possible to insert Section into DNN HTML module. But it requires some html/css skills.
Section is just some html+css+images.

Thank you,
Olivia

I have used Artisteer from Artisteer 2.0
I was a beta tester of Artisteer 2.0 version when it introduced DNN. So I know very well how Artisteer worked for DNN.
But when we move to Themler, that hasn't the content supporting. When we create a Theme and export, I can see the content is also in the skin file. It should be in an HTML module and content should be in the HTML module. Not in the skin file.

Please, advise me if I am wrong.

Hi,

Themler does not export the Content to DNN skins. But you should note that you can add a section in Themler in a different ways. You can insert it inside the template part marked with the blue area and then the section becomes the part of the template, like header, footer and all other parts that can not be edited within the CMS as they are not a content.
The content can not be edited in DNN themes.
Please let us know if you need our further help.

Sincerely,
Hella

I think you have not got my point.
Once we add the sections to the theme, it has hard coded to the skin files. We have to edit the skin file to edit the content instead of DNN HTML module. The skin file should have panes and the html content should be in HTML module on those panes. Artisteer worked like that and not in themler.

Please, advise.

Hi,

As mentioned above and as mentioned in the documentation, Themler does not export content. It means that each Section, Image, Text or any other control is a part of the skin design.
Themler works similar to Artisteer 3.x versions (before content editor and content export).

Thank you,
Olivia

Thank you for the reply.

The content is also a part of skin is not a standard way of a standard DNN skin development. I think this is why you also moved from Artisteer 3.X from Artisteer 4.X
I was an artisteer user from Artisteer 2.0 beta version where you introduced DNN to Artisteer.

I am using Themler only for DNN and there may be many more who is working only with DNN.
We need it like Artisteer 4.x and please give a good priority for this.

If we have 5 pages in the site, this mean do we need 5 skin pages for the skin package? Please, advise us or this too.

We really keen on your priduct and want it as a fully compatible product with DNN in standard way.

Thank You!

12.madu,

I've created an instruction on how you can copy Themler Sections to the DNN HTML Modules:
http://answers.themler.com/articles/87069/
It may be helpful.

If we have 5 pages in the site, this mean do we need 5 skin pages for the skin package?

Unfortunately your question is not quite clear to me. Themler skin includes two templates: Home and Page. DNN allows to use one template at the same time. So, Page template may be used as default template and Home template may be assigned to the page selected as default. The Section added to the Page template will appear on all pages where this template is used, just like Header, Footer. The Content of the pages is controlled by DNN using HTML modules.

Thank you,
Olivia

Thank you very much for your reply and instructions. This will be useful. But I suggest, as a theme generated software, Themler should do this part automatically. I believe your developers can meet this requirement and it will add higher value to the themler for sure.
