is there a way to translate some english only text like "sale!" or "out of stock"?

I'm sorry the question is not quite clear for me.
Do you mean that in English theme translation you'd like to change text on the "Product Sale" and "Out Of Stock" control?
If my assumption is correct please try the following workaround:
1.the text on these controls is hardcoded in the several theme files. And it is not recommended to edit then.
2.you may use custom image with necessary text for these control.
3.sample for Out Of Stock control
3.1.open control settings and set font size to 0px to suppress text output
3.2.select image for the control background
Follow the same steps for the Product Sale control
