Instead of having the user login/register/profile on the menu bar which moves the main menu around as someone logs in, I believe it would be better to have a seperate user menu for this purpose that also shows messages, notifications, login, register, search and possibly even put social icons for FB, Google+ and so on.
The main thing is to have a user control bar at the top of the site or wherever you may wish to put it as a container above the header or wherever you may create it. Maybe it needs to be a module created for DNN but I seen other CMS theme software have this feature, and also release it as a module.
I am trying to shoot for something more mainstream when creating themes for DNN and themler is falling short without this. It would be nice to have a gear or something to the effect of what sites like Google, MSN and other websites have so it looks and feels like what most users are use to seeing.
Example At the top of website above the header:
[container(s)] | [user-notifications] | [user-messages] | [user-profile-pic] | [user-settings (login/logout/register/profile settings, maybe a gear with an arrow key once logged in)] | [website-search (site/web)]
