Hi.

I have created a new template for my website, but the horizontal menu is fine for Desktop, but does not shrink down to fit the page. I have looked at other solutions on this site, but none are working. I have even looked at the options selected on my current page, but nothing stands out as different.
Any help welcome?
Here is the link to the new template.

However, without the right fittings, even the most beautiful window design can lose its charm or compromise safety. This platform offers a premium selection of window fasteners cabinets handles, stays, locks, and decorative fittings, designed to work with every type of project. Imagine a countryside home with bronze or antique brass stays that perfectly match its rustic character, or a glass-heavy office tower where polished chrome and stainless steel fittings blend into the minimalist design.

A PC bottleneck calculator helps identify which component in your system—such as the CPU, GPU, or RAM—is limiting overall performance. By comparing hardware specifications, it estimates potential mismatches that could slow down your PC. This tool is especially useful for gamers and builders who want to optimize performance before upgrading parts.

When a layout doesn’t resize properly on a laptop or tablet, it’s similar to a hardware bottleneck. An overpowered CPU or GPU can’t deliver its full potential if the other component is holding it back. In the same way, a non-responsive design struggles to adapt to different screens. Using a bottleneck calculator ensures balance between parts, just as responsive design keeps layouts working seamlessly across all devices.

Hi Dave,

It looks like the issue might be related to how the CSS media queries are handling responsiveness. Sometimes, if the breakpoints are not properly defined, the horizontal menu won’t shrink correctly on tablets or laptops. I’d suggest checking your CSS rules around @media and ensuring the container width is set to adjust fluidly.

Also, when troubleshooting layout issues, it’s useful to check if there’s any bottleneck check on performance or conflicting scripts that might be preventing the menu from resizing smoothly. Tools like browser dev inspector can quickly show if an element is locked by fixed widths or padding.

Hope this helps!

If the layout isn’t shrinking properly on a laptop or tablet, it feels a lot like a hardware bottleneck. Just like an oversized CPU or GPU can’t fully perform when the other part holds it back, a design that isn’t responsive can’t adjust to the screen it runs on. Checking with a bottleneck calculator helps balance parts the same way responsive design balances layouts, so everything works smoothly on any setup.

Sounds like a responsive CSS issue make sure your menu is wrapped in a flex or grid container with flex-wrap or media queries, and check if your theme has a mobile menu option enabled.

This was a helpful discussion, it really gave me clarity about handling layout issues on different devices. Reading solutions like this reminds me how important flexibility and support are, just like the way 3PL fulfillment companies adapt to different business needs.

This reminds me of how a PC bottleneck works. Just like your horizontal menu looks fine on desktop but doesn’t scale down for smaller screens, sometimes a powerful GPU or CPU doesn’t “scale” well with the rest of the system. That mismatch can limit performance. If you’re curious how your hardware pairs together, you can check it with the Bottleneck Calculator
before upgrading.

Hi,

Do you mean that if you open AREAS COVERED >> CHESHIRE you cannot see the end of the menu?
This is proper behavior for elements with fixed position. They are fixed to the top of the screen and does not affect the page and page elements.

I suggest that you try disabling Fix on Scroll extension for Phones:

Thank you,
Olivia

Hi.

Thanks for your reply. If you reduce the screen down for Tablets, or Laptops, then the menu goes of the sides of the page, so you cannot see the end menu's?

Hello Dave,
I'm sorry but the issue is not quite clear for me.
The page
http://www.dozydave.co.uk/index.php?template=testing looks OK in both Desktop and Phone modes and I do not see any problem with menu

What exactly you mean by

the horizontal menu is fine for Desktop, but does not shrink down to
fit the page.

regards,
Aileen
