The right theme choice?

If I want a beginning theme that will have a center section with two sidebars what is the proper starting theme layout?

Is it a theme with 3 columns or a theme with a single column in the center and sidebars activated that can be modified to add more columns as the need arises?

Even more technical is where can I find any document that tells me the steps to set up a new theme. When there are columns, sidebars, menus, headers, etc. a lot of time and support questions could be saved if there were a step by step initial setup guide. For example: when sidebars are in the plan when do I activate those and how. Once sidebars are activated is that a setting that affects every page or can this be selected on a page by page basis?

There are so many options for controlling theme appearance and function that it is difficult to know where to start.

They include the WP sidebar. The right sidebar works in the same way as left (the left sidebar is active in the themes).
I'd also recommend that you refer to our docs at http://answers.themler.com/categories/3909/getting-started

Thank you Aileen. I see that I need to spend more time exploring the theme selection options.

It seems to me that a good way to assemble a theme would be to just add pieces from top to bottom. I could add first a header section or menu section depending on how I wanted to arrange them. Then add the next section whatever it is. I don't know any way to get Themler functionality in my website without first starting with some pre-made theme that requires extensive modification.

For example I found a menu section that could be the first section of my theme. menu. If I had Themler running on my website I could add that menu into a blank starting page but don't know if that is even possible without first starting with a pre-made theme that is 95% what I don't want and modifying from there.

Hi,

Unfortunately there is no possibility to start with the blank page. If you need to add that section with the menu, you can use the default theme as starting point, then open the Header options in the top ribbon and there will be the Change Header option on the left and that will open the library where you can find the desired header as the one you have linked to.

BTW, we are working on a new extension that will enable such design option where you build the page adding the desired sections one-by-one from top to bottom. But we do not have any time frames for the release date, please follow the news.
